i was thinking about this post and the conversation peridot had with steven in the drill and i realized something (su leaks / spoilers ahead)

we know she was very grateful for stevens compassion, and it hurts my heart that she has never felt that someone truly cared about her before. shed never truly felt love, and the crystal gems weren’t able to get that concept across to her. she didn’t understand it until someone SHOWED it to her instead of just explaining it.

i think peridot genuinely realizes now the importance of acceptance. i have no idea what will happen in same old world, but peridot seemed happy to have lapis back in gem drill, and as we saw in the barn mates leak, she’s trying to give lapis a (very personal and meaningful) gift.

i think she knows lapis is hurting and wants to fix that. she’s not just trying to kiss up like she did to amethyst; she genuinely understands the purpose of caring now.

she wants lapis to feel better, and she’s doing that by showing compassion like steven showed her. it might not be what lapis wants right now, and she doesn’t understand why peridot is doing this, so she lashes out. lapis, honestly, has every right to be bitter - but peridot knows it’s important for lapis to feel like she cares, because she remembers what it’s like to not be loved. she wants to pass on the feeling steven helped her understand. she’s trying because she cares. she doesn’t want lapis to feel the way she did.

peridot might just be the key to lapises happiness and redemption.
